Spotify Lists the Biggest Songs of Summer 2018

The post Spotify Lists the Biggest Songs of Summer 2018 appeared first on BardTech.

Spotify has listed the most-streamed songs of Summer 2018. The list is dominated by Drake, with support from Cardi B and Post Malone. But while the playlist will likely only appeal to a certain age group, it’s a fascinating snapshot of the music business.

The Billboard charts are good at informing us what songs have sold well on a particular day or week. However, music streaming services are better at tracking what songs have actually been the soundtrack to people’s summer. And Summer 2018 is no exception.

Spotify’s Most-Streamed Songs of Summer 2018

Spotify’s biggest song of Summer 2018 is Drake’s In My Feelings, a track which inspired a viral dance challenge and was the source of multiple memes. According to Spotify , In My Feelings was played “more than 393 million times between June 1 and August 20.”

The full list of songs mainly consists of R&B, Hip-Hop, and EDM. Which is unsurprising given that these are the kinds of feelgood tracks people generally listen to on vacation. Still, the odd pop song and rock tune have made it onto the list as well…

  1. In My Feelings – Drake
  2. Girls Like You – Maroon 5 (feat. Cardi B)
  3. I Like It – Cardi B (feat. Bad Bunny and J Balvin)
  4. Lucid Dreams – Juice WRLD
  5. SAD! – XXXTENTACION
  6. Better Now – Post Malone
  7. One Kiss – Calvin Harris (with Dua Lipa)
  8. Solo – Clean Bandit (feat. Demi Lovato)
  9. Taste – Tyga (feat. Offset)
  10. Youngblood – 5 Seconds of Summer
  11. God’s Plan – Drake
  12. Nice For What – Drake
  13. Te Boté – Nio Garcia (feat. Casper Magico, Darrell, Ozuna, Bad Bunny and Nicky Jam)
  14. Jackie Chan – Tiësto, Dzeko (feat. Post Malone and Preme)
  15. Back To You – Selena Gomez
  16. No Tears Left to Cry – Ariana Grande
  17. Moonlight – XXXTENTACION
  18. Don’t Matter To Me – Drake (with Michael Jackson)
  19. Rise – Jonas Blue
  20. Nonstop – Drake

As a 40-something individual most of these songs haven’t exactly been on my radar. However, I can now stream this playlist in its entirety to actually hear what people half my age are listening to. So, thank you Spotify for making me feel really old.

Spotify Focuses on Popularity Over Personality

In previous years Spotify has created personal playlists for everyone. In 2017, Your Summer Rewind was packed with the songs each user had listened to over the last few summers. However, this year it seems Spotify is focusing more on general popularity.

How to change the PIM of a VeraCrypt volume

The developers of VeraCrypt introduced Personal Iterations Multiplier (PIM) functionality in the encryption program in version 1.12 . PIM stands for "Personal Iterations Multiplier". It is a parameter that was introduced in VeraCrypt 1.12 and whose value controls the number of iterations used by the header key derivation function. PIM is used by volumes even if the creator of the volume did not specify a value. It is an optional component that improves security: it adds another step to the authentication process similarly to two-factor authentication. The main difference is that the PIM value is fixed and not generated on the fly when requested. An attacker needs to know the master password and the PIM, if not set to default, to breach the encryption successfully and access the content of the drive or partition. A couple of good reasons exist to change the PIM value: It was leaked or stolen. The default value is used and that is not as secure as using a custom PIM. Yo...
