Twitter Tests Telling People Who to Unfollow

The post Twitter Tests Telling People Who to Unfollow appeared first on BardTech . Twitter is only as good as the people you follow. Which is why so many people struggle to get the most out of Twitter , as they join the site, follow a handful of people, and then get bored. On the other hand, it’s possible to follow too many people. Following too many people means a timeline filled with uninteresting nonsense. And the need to scroll through tweets you have no interest in to get to the good stuff. Which is why Twitter recently started recommending who you should stop following. Who to Unfollow on Twitter This was spotted by several Twitter users, some of whom took screenshots of the recommendations. Twitter has long recommended “Who to Follow” based on who you’re already following, so this would seem to be the natural balancing force. Matt Navarra was invited to “improve your timeline by reviewing some accounts you may not need to follow”. Clicking “Take a look” then opened up a ...

Tesla’s chief people officer takes leave of absence

The post Tesla’s chief people officer takes leave of absence appeared first on BardTech . Tesla’s chief people officer Gaby Toledano, and one of the few female executives at the automaker, is on leave of absence 15 months after taking the senior management position. The company confirmed she was on leave and did not provide a timeline of when she might return or if this move was more permanent. “Gaby previously asked to go on leave to spend time with her family, and we support that. The HR team has been sharing her responsibilities,” the company said in a statement. Toledano joined Tesla in May 2017 after 10 years on the executive team at video game publisher Electronic Arts. She has also led HR leadership positions at Siebel Systems, Microsoft, and Oracle. She replaced Arnnon Geshuri, who left the company after eight years amid complaints about work conditions at its Fremont factory. Unlike the company’s public CEO Elon Musk, Toledano was one of the many in Tesla’s senior mana...

Hating the wrong tech people for the right reasons

The post Hating the wrong tech people for the right reasons appeared first on BardTech . The slings and arrows aimed at tech’s titans these days are almost too numerous to count. Jeff Bezos: squandering money on space while exploiting warehouse employees. Mark Zuckerberg: complicit in everything from genocide to the death of democracy . Larry Page and Sergey Brin: in bed with China and the military . Elon Musk: where even to begin? Tim Cook has mostly escaped the brickbats, but if Steve Jobs were still with us, it seems plausible he’d be the biggest target of all. And the list goes on from there, of course. Let’s not kid ourselves: a lot of this criticism is warranted. Amazon should treat its warehouse workers better. Facebook should have seen the new form of information warfare coming from further away, recognized it when it was happening, and responded much faster and more decisively. Google shouldn’t have come as close as it did to implementing Project Maven. Tesla shou...

This New York venture firm just closed on $520 million from 250(!) people, including former Schwab and Facebook execs

The post This New York venture firm just closed on $520 million from 250(!) people, including former Schwab and Facebook execs appeared first on BardTech . Lead Edge Capital , a New York-based venture firm, has been around since 2009, and it has been quietly growing like kudzu since. After closing its very first fund with $52 million back in 2011, it has been roughly doubling the size of its funds ever since, closing on $138 million in 2013 and $290 million in 2016 and today, announcing a fourth, $520 million fund. Altogether, including some special purpose vehicles it has assembled, the firm is now managing roughly $1.5 billion in assets. How did the team, led by founder Mitchell Green, pull it off? Green’s background may have helped. The Williams College grad says he went to work for UBS as a banking analyst in its M&A group out of college, then it was on to Bessemer Venture Partners as an analyst, then Wharton, where he not only earned his MBA but began working at a Tiger-cu...
