Mapbox CEO says the map calling New York City ‘Jewtropolis’ has been 100% fixed, was ‘human vandalism’

The post Mapbox CEO says the map calling New York City ‘Jewtropolis’ has been 100% fixed, was ‘human vandalism’ appeared first on BardTech . Mapbox , the mapping startup that competes with the likes of Google Maps and Here to power location services on apps like Snapchat and Foursquare, says that a version of its New York map calling the city ‘Jewtropolis’ was an act of human vandalism that has now been removed across the hundreds of apps that pull in Mapbox data and are used by over 400 million people. “This is now 100 percent fixed and should have never happened. It’s disgusting,” Mapbox CEO and founder Eric Gundersen told TechCrunch. He says that Mapbox has built a large system that uses both AI and human checks to look out for vandalism. “We’re constantly scanning for this, and it’s an error on our part [to have missed it].” The issue of the mis-named map using the anti-Semitic slur came to light earlier today, with a number of people flagging the glitch on social media and ...

It isn’t the most usual situation for a founder to write a review trashing a competitor’s new product, but Oculus co-founder Palmer Luckey has never been the most conventional entrepreneur. Yesterday, Luckey  published a review of Magic Leap’s developer kit on his personal blog titled “ Magic Leap is a Tragic Heap,” wherein he offered  a few compliments but spent the majority of his words highlighting shortcomings of the new device while seeking to remind everyone of all the shit that Magic Leap execs talked about existing AR tech and how they nevertheless ended up running with a device that, in his opinion, made only minor improvements over the three-year-old HoloLens.  My review of Magic Leap ML1. It focuses on a few points that have not been broadly reported or analyzed by the media. https://t.co/ciBwUigIoQ — Palmer Luckey (@PalmerLuckey) A...
