The best of IFA 2018

The post The best of IFA 2018 appeared first on BardTech . IFA’s one of the year’s most fascinating tech shows — and not just because it means hanging out in Berlin for the week. The conference is primarily targeted at European consumers, but the late-August/early-September timing means plenty of companies use it as the global launch pad for gadgets aimed at holiday shoppers. In recent years, the conference had taken on more significance for this very reason. Though 2018 did seem to be something of an off year, with larger companies like Samsung and DJI launching their big products weeks before the big show. The other reason to love the show is its tendency toward the bizarre. There’s something about IFA that has the tendency to bring out the oddest impulses in gadget design, and this year’s event certainly fit the bill. What follows is a collection of the biggest, best and most bizarre of what IFA had to offer. Alexa routers Smart assistants were, naturally, everywhere at the ...

Alexa is now available on 20,000 devices

The post Alexa is now available on 20,000 devices appeared first on BardTech . That large number comes courtesy of Amazon’s press event at IFA in Berlin this week. It’s an impressive jump, given that the company was only boasting around 4,000 the last time it reported a number at the beginning of the year. “Just this year,” exec Daniel Rausch told the crowd, as reported by CNET . “Alexa has sung Happy Birthday millions of times to customers, and she’s told over 100 million jokes.” That’s a lot jokes — at least one or two of them must have been good, right? Alexa confirmed the number with TechCrunch, noting that Alexa is on “20k+ devices you can control with Alexa, from 3500+ brands.” Amazon’s own devices only make up a small portion of the overall number, of course. There just aren’t that many Echo smart speakers, the Fire TV and Fire tablets. But the company has been making an extremely aggressive push to get the assistant on as many third-party devices as possible. In many ca...

An alleged Huawei Mate 20 or Mate 20 Pro was spotted at IFA 2018

The post An alleged Huawei Mate 20 or Mate 20 Pro was spotted at IFA 2018 appeared first on BardTech . What do you do when an employee needs to bring a pre-production device out in public? You cover it up in a thick protective case and hope that nobody notices it. With how many technology journalists are at IFA 2018, it would be really hard to hide such an unannounced device from view. Indeed, someone (presumably a Huawei employee judging by the armband) was seen walking around with what’s either the Huawei Mate 20 or the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, as spotted by Spanish technology blog  Teknofilo . Photos of the alleged Huawei Mate 20 or Mate 20 Pro via Teknofilo As you can see in the images above, the smartphone is protected by a thick case which makes it really hard to see its design. If it wasn’t for its unique triple rear camera arrangement, this device would have probably gone unnoticed. But thanks to the renders of the Huawei Mate 20 that we published earlier this mont...

Huawei Mate 20 Lite is official: Here are all the details

The post Huawei Mate 20 Lite is official: Here are all the details appeared first on BardTech . Earlier this summer, we published the first specifications list  and renders for the Huawei Mate 20. That device is powered by the HiSilicon Kirin 980 system-on-chip , a beast of a SoC that was just unveiled by Huawei at IFA. It’s certainly not going to be a cheap phone, so what does Huawei have in store for those who are looking for something new, but more affordable? The Huawei Mate 20 Lite is the answer to that question. Its specifications aren’t as impressive as the larger Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have a lot to offer. Huawei Mate 20 Lite Design and Specifications The Huawei Mate 20 Life is made of metal and glass with a premium curved edge design. The main focus of the front is the display notch which houses two cameras, an earpiece, and other sensors. There is a chin on the bottom, but it’s not too big. The rear of the phone also has t...
