OnePlus 5 OnePlus 5T

As OnePlus begins to work on Android Pie for a number of its flagship smartphones from recent years, they’re still working on both of their software channels. The Open Beta program is currently still active on the OnePlus 5 and the OnePlus 5T , and Open Beta 17/15 brings huge changes to the system. Not only is there the inclusion of Gaming Mode 3.0, but there are a number of other system changes in tow as well. Also notable is the inclusion of a front-facing portrait mode, just like on the OnePlus 6 as promised . You can read the full changelog below!

OxygenOS Open Beta 17/15 for the OnePlus 5/OnePlus 5T

System

  • Added Toast message source for Toast messages sent by background apps
  • Added description about sleep standby optimization when the function is turned on for the first time
  • Optimized background power consumption control
  • Fixed call recording issue in India
  • Updated Android security patch to 2018.8

Camera

  • Added portrait mode for the front camera

Gaming mode 3.0

  • Added call suspension notification
  • Added text notification mode
  • UI and interaction optimization

Weather

  • Hourly weather forecast
  • 8 units of meteorological data including precipitation probability and Perceived temperature
  • Improved weather data accuracy

Note

  • New OxygenOS UI
  • Optimized process for sharing notes as an image

Oneplus Switch

  • UI optimization

The Toast message source is also a widely requested feature on custom ROMs, as it can be incredibly useful for finding spammy applications. Gaming Mode 3.0 is also present, which adds a call suspend notification, text notification mode, and UI optimization.

On top of all of that, OnePlus’ own suite of applications have gotten some work done as well. The Notes app has been updated to be consistent with the system’s new UI that was introduced in the last Open Beta. The OnePlus Switch app has also gotten some UI work done. Other apps such as the included OnePlus Weather app has now become infinitely more useful as well, with an hourly weather forecast for starters.

Overall, it appears that this is one of those updates that just makes everything better. There are no immediate regressions by the looks of things, and it’s a large update all things considered. With a new August security patch , dozens of new features and improvements to try out, and more, OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T owners should be ecstatic. You can check out the announcement post below. Note that you can’t use a VPN to force the update anymore, but you can give Oxygen Updater a try.

How to change the PIM of a VeraCrypt volume

The developers of VeraCrypt introduced Personal Iterations Multiplier (PIM) functionality in the encryption program in version 1.12 . PIM stands for "Personal Iterations Multiplier". It is a parameter that was introduced in VeraCrypt 1.12 and whose value controls the number of iterations used by the header key derivation function. PIM is used by volumes even if the creator of the volume did not specify a value. It is an optional component that improves security: it adds another step to the authentication process similarly to two-factor authentication. The main difference is that the PIM value is fixed and not generated on the fly when requested. An attacker needs to know the master password and the PIM, if not set to default, to breach the encryption successfully and access the content of the drive or partition. A couple of good reasons exist to change the PIM value: It was leaked or stolen. The default value is used and that is not as secure as using a custom PIM. Yo...
