Pixel 3 XL

The Pixel 3 XL has certainly not been a shy device. We’ve seen it from every angle , in multiple colors , on video , and in its packaging . There’s not much left to learn about this device. However, one thing we haven’t seen yet is sample photos. The camera is a very big part of what makes the Pixel phones so great, and now we can see how the camera performs on the Pixel 3 XL.

These sample photos are from Russian tech blog Rozetked. They show off the packaging of the devices as well, which matches up with the previous leaks. Somehow, Google misplaced a batch of Pixel 3 XLs, because this is now the second time we’ve seen a final production unit in the wild. One thing to keep in mind: the EXIF data has been scrubbed from these photos. It does seem that he has the actual device, but we can’t officially confirm that these photos were taken with the Pixel 3 XL. This also appears to be early software for the camera as some of the photos look overcooked.

One other new thing has been shown off: wireless charging. We’ve known for a while that it’s very likely the Pixel 3 will have wireless charging. We discovered references to a “Pixel Stand, ” and Android P Beta 2 hinted at support for wireless charging stands . Now we can see an actual video of the Pixel 3 XL being placed on a wireless charger and charging.

Google seems to have seriously screwed up somehow. We’re still over a month away from the October hardware event, and there’s almost nothing left to confirm about the Pixel 3 XL. The smaller Pixel 3, on the other hand, hasn’t shown up nearly as much . What are your thoughts on these sample photos? Are they as good as you expected? Are you excited about wireless charging?

How to change the PIM of a VeraCrypt volume

The developers of VeraCrypt introduced Personal Iterations Multiplier (PIM) functionality in the encryption program in version 1.12 . PIM stands for "Personal Iterations Multiplier". It is a parameter that was introduced in VeraCrypt 1.12 and whose value controls the number of iterations used by the header key derivation function. PIM is used by volumes even if the creator of the volume did not specify a value. It is an optional component that improves security: it adds another step to the authentication process similarly to two-factor authentication. The main difference is that the PIM value is fixed and not generated on the fly when requested. An attacker needs to know the master password and the PIM, if not set to default, to breach the encryption successfully and access the content of the drive or partition. A couple of good reasons exist to change the PIM value: It was leaked or stolen. The default value is used and that is not as secure as using a custom PIM. Yo...
